Why don't we offer "unlimited" service?

This is an approach often used by new providers, who have a lot of unused equipment and need to establish a customer base in a hurry! You may be able to find a genuine good deal out there, but you should be aware that:

  • This provider may go out of business with little/no notice (with a bad impact on your established web site visitors!).
  • If your site really is a "hog" -- you may find yourself with higher rates or disconnected, based on some "fine print" in a contract.
  • In a few months, after a customer base develops, the provider will establish "limits" OR move "busy" sites to one server and let them suffer poor performance.

While "all you can eat" may be a good model for some businesses (including dial-up service) -- it can be devastating to web servers. Based on our experiences since 1995, and hundreds of sites hosted -- less than ONE percent of our sites exceed the Business Service limit of EIGHT Gigabytes of data transfer! Average data transfers are very low.

However, a busy site will exceed these averages by a factor of ONE HUNDRED! This is one reason we no longer host "adult" sites, ONE site would use ONE Gigabyte/DAY! Those types of large differences between high & low, force us to limit bandwidth so that we can provide ALL subscribers with excellent and reliable service. Again, you may be able to find a genuine good deal out there, but remember the old adage, you get what you pay for!.
